This chapter runs on people who show up for it.
Vista Ridge DECA is more than 200 members deep, and every one of them needs a judge, a chaperone, or an adult willing to show up. This isn't just for parents — alumni, teachers, and community professionals are just as welcome.
Not just parents
Alumni, teachers, college students, and industry professionals are all wanted here just as much as moms and dads. If you have twenty minutes or a whole Saturday, there's a role sized to fit.
No DECA background required
Most volunteer roles need a good adult more than a business degree. Officers hand you the rubric and walk you through all you need to know.
Scale needs support
One advisor cannot chaperone three conferences, run five fundraisers, and judge a hundred practice roleplays alone. Every volunteer hour is one a student directly benefits from.
Ways to help
Pick the role that fits your schedule.
None of these require a DECA background, and none require a huge time commitment unless you want one. Here's what's actually needed this year, in plain terms.
Judge Roleplays & Mock Interviews
Sit on a mock judge panel before real competitions, or run a practice interview. Business, marketing, or finance experience is genuinely welcome but not required.
Chaperone a Conference
District, State (Houston), and ICDC (Anaheim) all need background-checked adult chaperones to travel with students. It's a multi-day commitment for State and ICDC, but also the best seat in the house for watching this chapter compete.
Fundraising & Event Support
Help plan or staff a fundraiser (restaurant nights, concessions, chapter events) that directly funds travel costs for members who need it.
Donate or Sponsor
Own a business, work somewhere with a community giving program, or just want to support travel costs directly? Sponsorships and donations fund scholarships so no student sits out for financial reasons.
General Event-Day Help
Setup, hospitality, registration tables, running snacks to a hotel conference room at 7 AM. The unglamorous work that makes a competition day run on time.
Alumni
Once a Ranger, always a Ranger.
If you competed for Vista Ridge DECA last year, five years ago, or back when the chapter looked completely different, there's a standing invitation to come back. You know exactly what a nervous student walking into a roleplay room needs to hear, and that perspective is something no current adult volunteer can fully replicate.
Judge a roleplay
Bring the competitor's-eye view to a mock judge panel. You remember what actually mattered in that room.
Mentor a competitor
Pair up with a member prepping for your old event and talk them through what worked for you, and what didn't.
Share your path
Come talk to a chapter meeting about where DECA took you. A college, a career, a competition you'll never forget; members want to hear it.

Common questions.
Do I need a DECA background to help?
No. Most volunteer roles need a reliable adult more than business expertise. For roles where subject knowledge helps — like judging roleplays — officers walk you through the rubric beforehand, so you're never guessing.
Do I need a background check?
Yes, for any role involving student travel — chaperoning District, State, or ICDC requires a completed background check through the district. Roles that don't involve travel, like judging or event-day help on campus, typically don't.
How much time does this actually take?
As much or as little as you want. Judge one practice roleplay session and you're done, or chaperone every conference this year — both are genuinely useful, and nobody expects a standing weekly commitment.

Yes — this page exists for exactly that reason. Alumni, teachers from other departments, college students, and community or industry professionals are all welcome and, frankly, needed just as much as current parents.
